This young bear has been a regular visitor in my neighborhood and on this occasion, I spotted him in a tree behind my house. A seven year drought had a devastating effect on the trees in the San Bernardino Mountains, in Southern California, weakening many and making them vulnerable to attack from the Bark Beetle. The bear is in a healthy Oak tree but I added the neighboring branches of the dying cedar, not only to enhance the bear's golden coloration, but also for the reality of that time in the mountains.
